Exotic Materials Used for Boots
Many
different materials may be used to create cowboy boots. Some of the more
exotic materials include alligator, buffalo, crocodile, eel, elephant,
lizard, ostrich, python and rattlesnake. Most of the boots made from
such exotic materials create a fashion statement, rather than a work
boot. You will probably want to purchase a pair of regular cowhide
leather cowboy boots if you intend to use your boots for work purposes.
Cowhide is a very durable leather and will allow your feet to breathe.
It is also more affordable. However, you can find cowhide leather boots
in patterns that depict buffalo, elephant, snake, lizard or crocodile.
Ostrich is one of the most sought after exotic skins used in making
cowboy boots today. The grain of the ostrich material is very unique,
which, of course, is why it is such a desired material for cowboy boots.
Ostrich material is available in full pin quill, which is the type that
contains some bumps, and smooth parts; or the smooth ostrich with no
bumps. Ostrich is also available in a pattern, which is actually quite
durable and breathes well also.
Many different snake skins are used to make cowboy boots, with the most
common being rattlesnake or python. The python has large tiles on its
belly which are used to form a back cut pattern on cowboy boots. A
belly-cut pattern features the back portion of the snake on the front of
the cowboy boots. This pattern depicts smaller tiles that are quite
ornate.
The rattlesnake boots may be made from any of three types of
rattlesnakes. These include the Eastern, Western and Cane Break
rattlesnakes. When formed into cowboy boots, these skins create very
beautiful, intricate patterns that cannot be reproduced on any other
boots.
Lizard skin boots are usually made from an alligator lizard or horn back
lizard. The surface of the boots contains hard tiles, which makes them
easy to shine. The horn back lizard boots resemble the pattern of a
brick wall with their overlapped tiles and staggered rows.
Eel skin boots are quite popular with their smooth, sleek appearance and
soft, supple qualities. These boots are lightweight and durable.
