About discount shoes
Since discount shoe stores sell a high volume of different brands and makes of shoes, they can sell them to you at a lower price than a smaller retail store. Also, they often have lower labor force costs and buy factory direct, which further cuts their costs. All of these factors allows them to set affordable prices for consumers. How to select and purchase the most comfortable work boots
Three ways manufacturers measure boot sizes:
1) The average length of foot for which a work boot is suitable. For the customer, this is the best way to measure, however, it is less popular with manufacturers since it requires them to test each new model for the range of foot sizes it must fit. The manufacturer then has the burden of ensuring that the boot will fit a foot of a given length.
2) The length of the inner cavity of the boot. This method has the advantage that it can be measured easily on the finished product. However, it will vary with manufacturing tolerances and provides the customer with only a rough idea about the range of foot sizes for which the boot is suitable.
3) The length of the "last" which is the foot-shaped template over which the shoe is manufactured. This method is the easiest one for the manufacturer to use, as it only identifies the tool used to produce the boot. It makes no promises regarding manufacturing tolerances or what size of foot the boot is actually suitable. All responsibility and risk of choosing the correct size is left with the customer.
